Blue wildebeest can be found throughout Southern and eastern Africa, including Namibia. They are one of the plains game legends as they are famous for the great migration where over a million Blue wildebeest trek over the Serengeti plains to follow the seasonal rains.

They can be found in a variety of habitats but are known to prefer savannah plains which makes Otjandaue Hunting Safaris a perfect spot to hunt Blue wildebeest in Namibia, as our ranch features a lot of dry river beds, granite kopjes, and one part red savannah bush veldt.

Blue wildebeest get their name from their bluish and silver-grey coats. Both males and females have horns that curve out to the side. The male’s horns are slightly longer than the female’s horns. A Blue Wildebeest can weigh up to 250kg (550 lb) and can measure up to 1.5m (5 ft) in length.

These animals spend the hottest part of the day resting. Periods of increased activity are the morning and late afternoon.

How to Hunt Blue Wildebeest in Namibia

Hunting Blue wildebeest is traditionally done by the walk-and-stalk method. They can be found in large herds or bachelor herds of 2-10 animals. Solitary bulls can also be found defending a specific territory. The best time of day to hunt them is during the morning and late afternoon as they spend the hottest part of the day resting.  

Blue wildebeest can also be hunted with a bow from a hide or a blind.  

Minimum Calibre Required

We recommend a .308 as the minimum caliber for hunting Blue wildebeest in our area. The average shot is about 80 m (87 yards) to 150 m (163 yards), but the occasional shot of 200 m (218 yards) may occur.

• 15% VAT weapon rental or any extra services.
• 15% VAT on animals wounded and not found.
