Otjandaue Hunting Ranch is a private trophy hunting ranch in Namibia owned and operated by Roy and Janet Van der Merwe with their two daughters Rune and Kaylin. Otjandaue Hunting Safaris offer, plains game hunting and bowhunting in central Namibia and is home to a variety of African plains game species and wild predators.

Otjandaue hunting outfitters’ ranch is 24700 acres (10000 ha) in size and is one of the few concessions that display three different types of sceneries as it is covered with a lot of dry river beds, granite kopjes, and one part red savannah bush veldt.

A typical hunting day at our ranch starts with an early morning breakfast at sunrise before we depart for the bush, where we drive around and scout animals to stalk. At around 10:30 am, we will move to a blind at a waterhole since most animals will start to find shade from the midday afternoon heat.

After a morning’s hunt, we will return to the lodge at around 12:30 – 13:30, where lunch is served. After lunch, we take a short siesta to get over the midday heat. The afternoon hunt commences at around 16:00, where we will drive around the concession to spot and stalk until sunset.

After a full day of hunting, we will return to the lodge, where dinner will be served while we sit around the fire and discuss the day’s events.

Factors that can Influence a Hunting Day

There are multiple factors that can influence a typical hunting day. Your outfitter has a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you increase your chances to get the trophy you have been dreaming about. Here are some of the factors you should be aware of:

Weather

The weather plays a big role when hunting. For example, if we experience strong winds or the wind suddenly changes direction, we will need to adopt a different approach. Plains game tend to stand still or lie down when there are strong winds.

Time of Day

Animals tend to be on the move during the early hours in the morning and late afternoons when it is a little bit cooler. Late afternoons tend to be the best time to spot and stalk, but we need to stress that it all depends on the wind and the weather.

Species

The species of animal we are after also has a major influence on the day and can change the decision-making. For example, Mountain Zebra rarely drink water during the day, so sitting in a blind at a waterhole during the day is not going to yield any results.
